The Oral Biology course is a research-oriented coursethat aims to bridge the basic sciences with the clinical disciplines and introduce basic science research at the undergraduate level. It is a multidisciplinary course concerned with the structure and functions of tissues, fluids, and microbial flora in the oral cavity and adjoining areas especially at the molecular and cellular level. It encompasses the understanding of the effects of various lifestyles and systemic conditions with the overall healthy balance of such tissues, with particular reference to Nutrition. The Oral Biology course is not presented as a fixed set of topics, but rather is revised periodically to keep pace with new technologies and advances in dental science, that have direct and indirect implications on clinical practices and are heavily dependent on cellular and molecular biology

This course focuses on the role of diet and nutrition in reducing the risk for diseases, increasing energy, improve body systemic functions and mental well being. It also provides the students with profound knowledge concerning role of diet in oral health and combating dental diseases. The student should be able to recognize the role of a well-balanced low caries risk diet for infant, children, adolescents and persons with special health care needs
The aim of this course is to provide postgraduate students with a basis of knowledge on nutrition, its importance for the heath of the individual in general and for patients with particular conditions. Furthermore, it will provide the student with a base in the current nutritional trends in society, the underlying nutritional imbalances and their effect on general and oral health. The course provides a brief overview on current research trends in nutrition as well as projections of nutritional adequacy and quality of life (QoL). This course will provide knowledge and skills in the intervention on habits acquired during childhood that are known to become risk factors for general and oral conditions. Postgraduate students will be taught to do in-depth diet analysis and dietary consultation for patients who require it
